it reminds of the american airport taxis...a kind of extended car but from the back it looks like a van I have a clue : https://bringatrailer.com/2013/03/19/no-gaz-armored-1948-skoda-vos/ Skoda VOS ? -- Last edit: 2022-06-02 20:58:11 |

Why did you say GAZ when it quite clearly says "No GAZ"?... |
◊ 2022-06-02 21:03 |
I had seen GAZ but the article in the link, talks about a skoda...same design...it may not be that ... just an idea ![]() ![]() -- Last edit: 2022-06-03 20:01:39 |

I'd say they took Tatra 87 doors. ![]() |

It is possible: Skoda was nationalised at the end of 1945. The company had to give up its prestige models, which were now produced by Tatra, and concentrate on popular models. One can assume that there were standardised parts. I think it's a Skoda because of the circle on the front grill which is quite typical of their design at the time...maybe a special model like the race director's car ? Perhaps you should also look for the Czech coachbuilder Karosa who made buses... ![]() -- Last edit: 2022-06-03 20:24:17 |

Is the number plate from Czechoslovakia or from somewhere else? I watched the video and it appears that this bit of footage was filmed in Warsaw, but the number plate on this car doesn't look Polish either? |

Yes, that's footage from Warsaw start. I'm almost sure it's Czechoslovakian vehicle. |

Yes, this is Warsaw. I watched the documentary carefully and my opinion is divided: either it's some kind of polish made mini-bus or it's a Czech car: it seems that the plate is something like "SK or SM 65-46" Its shape looks like the old Swiss plates but I think they were the same in Czechoslovakia... the car appears at the beginning of the film but I'm not sure if it's the same one seen from the back. Apparently it doesn't appear in the other sequences in the bike convoy. except at 9'50" where we see a car that looks like it is in the background on the square in the crowd (right footage) That's why I'm thinking of a Polish bus ...or a foreign car since it was a peace race... Finally, could it be a Warszawa FSO ? it's very intriguing.... ![]() ![]() ![]() the doc is funny but they weren't laughing back then in Poland (gd ma was polish) you had the choice between winning the race or 10 years of camp ![]() ![]() ![]() -- Last edit: 2022-06-04 21:22:31 |

No, and any other Polish built vehicle. I'm 98% sure it's Czechoslovakian car, 2% East German. Probably it was one-off sample, maybe based on prewar vehicle chassis. ![]() Nah, that's exaggeration. ![]() However, the average man had to be very careful who he told jokes about Josef Stalin, indeed. He was careful not to let his nasty neighbor realize that he was listening to the radio 'Free Europe'. |

I'm searching for 50s documentaries and photos about Czechoslovakian cycling races, hoping I'll find this thing again. |

I had the same idea with this "race for peace" but I found nothing ![]() |

well...this car is a great mystery ![]() From the plate I think it's a Slovakian car (SK ?) or maybe a workshop-car for the bikes during the race. we see boxes and what looks like a white motorcycle helmet at the back... about registration plate : https://www.licenseplatemania.com/landenpaginas/slovakije.htm -- Last edit: 2022-06-07 17:38:37 |

The first FSO Warszawa, special-purposed for Polish cyclist team, was this pick-up prototype built in 1955 by FSO and borrowed for 1956 Zavod Miru/Wyścig Pokoju with some unique bikes' holders added. M20 L-head engine gave unsufficient 37 kW power for 1400 kg Pobeda/Warszawa, which was smaller car than this huge thing.![]() It's one-off Czechoslovakian built vehicle, maybe based on Skoda VOS chassis or long wheelbase prewar car with rusted or destroyed (and too luxurious for new communist country) genuine body. Please note very high bonnet line, for hiding large (in-line?) engine. -- Last edit: 2025-04-26 01:02:26 |

That's another mysterious vehicle after this one, noted on 1952. /vehicle.php?id=262507 |
