It's a 911 SC, early in the movie, they how a close up of the rear (so you can see Lumbergh's license plate - MY PRSH), and you can make out the badge. |

You are correct, it was a 1982 SC, in Minerva Blau, a very stunning color, but with an ugly brown interior. Two cars were used during the production, this one (which I subsequently acquired and built into a G-Class PCA race car) and a non-running car which was painted the same color as a stand in for the tow-truck scene. This "Stunt" car was actually a 911 SC that had suffered fire damage and had no interior or front glass. The movie car is now in the Dallas area, still running in PCA club races. |

I think Porsches from this era look a bit dated now, to me the idea behind having the soulless, spineless coporate middle-manager stereotype Bill Lumbergh driving one of these with a vanity plate that reads "MY PRSH" (ingenious) was to satirize the kind of person who want to have a Porsche as a status symbol but obviously couldn't afford a new one. I don't mean to sound like Jeremy Clarkson, these aren't bad cars but somehow they feel too much like a relic of the 80s yuppie-era. -- Last edit: 2007-02-16 23:35:42 |
