@ MisterZ - are you sure the A30 (or A35) were built in Aus?? I don't think they were - assembly in Aus was a Nuffield venture (ie Morris and Wolseley only) from 1950 start (pre-BMC merger until 1957 when first Austins were added as A55 Cambridge. Can't find a reference for A30 or A35 assembly. |

@dsl - my source is Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Austin_A30#Australian_production "The A30 was produced in Australia by the Austin Motor Company (Australia) Pty Ltd from 1952 to 1954 and by its successor, the British Motor Corporation (Australia) Pty Ltd from 1954 to 1956." Also, there are 3 other A30s on this site which are all listed as being built in Australia. -- Last edit: 2015-09-18 13:03:21 |

Thanks - I'm up to speed now. My info was no Austin before 1957, but that was niggling away because it did not explain oddities like the A40 (Devon) Tourer - http://www.oldclassiccar.co.uk/a40tourer.htm . But one detail point is still valid that Austin assembly did not occur under the BMC banner until 1957 - everything earlier was an assortment of direct arrangements between Austin (through their direct subsidiary Austin Motor Co. (Australia) Ltd) and various local contractors (which contradicts wiki slightly in that British Motor Corporation (Australia) Pty Ltd never did A30s). None of this fluctuating company history actually matters for our purposes, except that the variety of venture names threw me off the scent as I wasn't looking in the right places. And as far as I can tell - even with my new understanding -Australia never assembled A35s. |
