If you have one, you will keep it.

It's statisticially confirmed, that a Proton will never be stolen.

Well, not long time ago statistically the most stolen car in France was the Renault Twingo, not the luxury ones ;) (compared to the number of cars of each model, not in raw value of course)

A recent 2006 study showed that the most commonly stolen car in southern California was the 1987 Toyota Camry. Hardly an expensive luxury-mobile

In Holland the Opel Kadett [E]. Easy to steal... Must be hard to find a good Kadett now.

I fully agree with you, proton produces crap cars.

1)Outdated design
2)Terrible safety features
3)Bad perfomance
4)Break down easily

@subzero: in Europe Proton has made the try to offer the cheapest car on the market. For a few years they were sold in Germany, too. Now this "cheap-cheap"-part of the German market is hold by the romanian Dacia Logan.

The most stolen car in Germany are (just brainstorming):

without electronic anti-theft-locking:

- Mercedes 500 E [W124]
- Porsche 911 all kind of, especially the Carrera
- Mercedes G-Klasse
- Jeep Cherokee
- VW Polo G 40 [Typ 86c]
- VW Golf GTI (MKI to MKIII)
- BMW 5-Series
- Mercedes W 126 (sedan and coupe)
- Trabant 601 (easy to steal)

with safety-electronic (usually the keys were stolen by home-jacking)

- BMW X5
- Mercedes M-Klasse
- Porsche 911
- BMW 7-Series
- Mercedes 600 SEL
- all kind of AMG-Mercedes
- Volvo XC
- Audi Q7

Ah, to the "pre-electronic"-cars, I have to add:

- Opel Manta
- Peugeot 205 GTI
- Renault 5 turbo
- BMW 3-Series Cabriolet

I have searched a bit. In Germany a Proton is not only the car with the lowest theft-danger, it's also in used condition the cheapest possibility to buy a roadworthy car with valid TÜV (technical inspection). See here:
Link to "suchen.mobile.de"

Btw., it seems, that in Germany (only there?) Proton had used other model-names. We don't have 313, 415, 416 and so on in our IMCDB-lists.

P.S. Obviously there are a plenty of idiots offering a Proton. Asking for such cars, older than 10 years, more than 2000 Euro, is totally unworldly and grotesque.

If its badge is not changed or replaced, it is "Mitsubishi Champ" (third generation Lancer).

Edit: Lancer Champ.

The Most stolen cars in Ireland are usually older Japanese cars, I would say Nissan Micra. I don't really know.
