Appears to be, given the placement of the headlights. |

It is a Land-Rover 88" Series IIa from 1965 (C-reg). The small picture shows it has the rear p.t.o. pulley attached. I think this is the first we have seen in a film! Very interesting! |

Given the registration, which in 1965 was issued by Solihull, it wouldn't surprise me if this Landie was bought or scrounged from the factory. It has the look of a well-used factory hack. |

I had wondered why it looked so beat up. It's one of only two cars on the island, anyway (the other being Dr. Landers' Austin Sixteen). The Landy here appears to be the all-purpose, everybody-on-the-island-uses-it vehicle. (I had thought the one Dr. Phillips rides it at the beginning was a different one but then I noticed it has the same license plate.) -- Last edit: 2008-04-13 17:14:46 |

John St. John Earl will be pleased that you are so easily being deceived by his special effects ... ![]() What looks like a beaten up vehicle is actually a very clean Landy with "Hollywood-Dirt" applied. Well, not really Hollywood, as this film was made in Bucks, UK, but probably some mixture of diluted whitewash, earth, ashes and who knows what, neatly applied to all surfaces. The dirt on a used car looks different, especially the distribution of the dirt. ... and of course it is still going strong, it is just a few days older than me ... ![]() -- Thanks for the nice extra pics! |
