The tractor is known as The Ivel named after the Bedfordshire river. It was designed over a periode of five years by Daniel Albone, patented in 1902 and the first one was built in 1903. About 1000 machines were made by the Ivel Agricultural Motors Limited over a period of 14 years.

This is probably Ivel No. 131, the only known working example in England.

At least seven are now known to exist; two in Australia, one each in New Zealand, Sweden, and Zimbabwe, plus two in England. The science museum in Kensington has an Ivel....

Number 131 which left the works in 1903 was used as a demonstration machine until sold to Mr Tinniswood at Rosebank farm, Dalston, Northumberland in 1905. (This was)...professionally rebuilt to a high standard in 1994.

On Saturday 21st June 2003 the Ivel returned to Biggleswade... Then on Sunday 22nd June 2003 ...the Ivel was driven 100 miles to the Royal Show at Stoneleigh stopping each day at various locations en route including Old Warden Park, Silsoe Agricultural Research Centre, Woburn Abbey, Silverstone Race Circuit, Upper Boddington and Lemington Spa. After a journey without incident, it arrived at the Royal Show on Sunday 29th June when John Moffitt received a hero’s welcome. During the week the Ivel was the subject of a main ring presentation. The Ivel (was) booked for shows right up to 23rd November at Skipton near Leeds.

I thought I knew all the vehicle manufacturers from my own county, Bedfordshire, until this came up. ;)

Dan Albone looks to have been an interesting manufacturer and inventor but sadly he died at a relatively young age.
