how are these miniature wagons classed on IMCDB ?.......it isnt a Foden as although it has the badge etc..its home/kit made and probably not a period item..although styled as a 1924 Foden, it could have been made yesterday!...are they classed on IMCDB as per vehicle name..even tho the manufacturer had nothing to do with them...or are they kit/replicas????, even tho the manufacturers of the fullsize vehicles MAY have allowed their names to have been used on them...usually what you find is that these mini traction engines and steam wagons only date back to the 1950s and unless you see the actual vehicle in the metal to get the details from the owner, an exact date of manufacture would be difficult. |

These working model engines exists in different scales. Common are 6" (1:2), 4½" (1:2⅔), 4" (1:3), 3" (1:4) and 2" (1:6). Some are one-off hand-built machines, some built according to plans or complete model kits. They usually copy a historic engine. These machines are fully functional and can easily pull a trailer full of people. A 4½" scale Burrell is known to pull 17 tons! Plans and some cast iron parts for a 4½" scale Foden Wagon are available and were probably used in the creation of this machine. I would call it Custom Made 4½" scale Foden Wagon 'Hissing Sid'. --- Edit: Looking at the pictures again the scale must be larger, making this rather a 6" scale Foden Wagon. -- Last edit: 2008-01-25 20:45:09 |
