I've heard this term from a Dutch friend for the aftersales-market chrome at the wheel-arches. The German translation would be "Zigeuner-Chrom" - but it's against the political correctness today to use that word "Zigeuner" for gipsys. No joke, a new term was created for them: MEM's (= mobile ethnic minority). But except some left-alternative softie-politicans noone uses that word. I'm working in an insurance company, we have other, much ruder and rougher words (naturally only for internal use)for gipsys, other minorities and immigrants.
