The cab being on the left narrows it down a lot. Lima, Link-Belt, and Lorain are some companies that built them like that.

I believe this could be the smoking gun to Byers theory , not much reference on them they closed down in 1954 but they did lots of such machines for US military in WW2 so this could easy explain a leftover in west germany

found this pic and general layout matches , like shape and the vent and door position
