Thames. We seem to have adopted ET6 as the type name for these. |

Initially 1949 'Fordson Thames' then 1950-54 'Thames' without bonnet side flash. |

These trucks were available with four different engines: Two petrol “ET6” 4 cylinder “Cost Cutter” V-8 Two diesel “ET7” 4 cylinder “4D” 6 cylinder “6D” Plus a Perkins diesel option. (An old transport friend was not complimentary about these. “Cold mornings you needed a can of easy start, Polly Perkins - useless things.” The diesels had an appropriate badge on the grille, not present here, there was a “Cost Cutter” badge but I don’t recall ever seeing a truck like this fitted with one. Ironically, seeing this truck loaded with milk churns, the Milk Marketing Board used a fleet of them, with an extension over the cab either for extra churns or for the sheets. I don’t recall seeing one sheeted up though. With the diesel knock from the 4D, and a load of empty churns, you knew when one was around! |
