This single rear wheel Transit appears to have a longer wheelbase than the usual 118" twin wheel version. Does anyone know why? |

I could imagine something like: The LWB chassis is already here (for whatever reason), now we ask the coachbuilder to turn it into an ambulance. At least that's what happens in the funeral car business every now and then. |

Thank you AnimatronixX, Maybe to compete with the larger Bedford CF 126" wheelbase. The stretcher trolley could be fitted in between the larger wheelbase leading to a more comfortable patient journey. |

Longnose grille is either diesel or 3-litre V6. |

That makes perfect sense. I was actually thinking of an individual custom job rather than an entire model or series for an ambulance service that got their hands on a chassis (maybe from a bus manufacturer that had gone bankrupt) and then asked the Hanlons to do with it what they did best. Unusual Whitby Morrison ice cream vans (and the hearses I was referring to) are sometimes born that way. Edit: That was for ambfan, not for dsl this time. -- Last edit: 2020-12-20 00:14:00 |
