Excellent find! It's an Opel Blitz. No less than a German commercial coachbuilding milestone seen here: This is one of the very first armoured money/ value transport vans in Germany, built by pioneer Karlheinz Schies, who founded the German value transport industry by establishing Security Service Werttransporte GmbH in 1966. There were no national specialist manufacturers and thus no experience for this sort of speciality vehicles around, which is why Schies and Security Service built their first security vans by their own, using the 1966 Opel Blitz chassis. These were bodied without existing safety regulations or legal requirements to be followed, because there just weren't any. Over the years, Schies and his staff gathered more and more experience building security vans, founded "MPK – Mannheimer Panzerkarosseriebau" in 1986 and built security vehicles for national and international customers. Nowadays, one of these early value vans (possibly even the one above!) is placed on the roof of an office building at Schies Wertelogistik GmbH, Mannheim. It can be seen on Google Maps and even better on Google Street View. Or below at an earlier state of defying wind and weather: |
