Was that pickup version also called "Vanagon" in the US? (if this scene is made there)

We haven't had any Type 2 Pickups since 1971. Something like this has to be a special order in the USA.

Double Cab Syncro something. It could be in imported Doka 16" from Canada.

kinda matches this Tristar Syncro with the lower lights:

Yes, T3 "Doka" =Doppelkabine. As ahight, wrote, a 4x4 "syncro" (to see by the higher chassis).

Interesting, that they aren't available in the USA. In Europe they were very common, very popular for road-maintenances, building- or gardener-companies and so on. A lot of them were used by the army, too. This was my job at the Bundeswehr 17 years ago, driving VW T3 Doka's and other VW Transporters.

When you have to change the oil, you want to smash that Doka with a big hammer. The intake is a long telescope-pipe. It takes hours to fill up the oil. If you are filling too fast, you'll have the oil over you fingers and your clothes

But all Bundeswehr-"Doka's" had a greatful extra: http://www.eberspaecher.com/servlet/PB/menu/1003910_l1/index.html (resp. the primitive version of that part shown on the page)
Other army-cars had it, too, like my ex-General's Opel Omega. WON-DER-FUL  (my feeling every winter-morning, when I start my car)

So how do we name it? :??:

To be correct, we have to divide all VW T3 (Bus/Transporter/Pritsche/Doppelkabine/Vanagon/Multivan etc.) to the single types:

245: Pritsche
247: Doppelkabine (DOKA)
251: Kasten (Transporter)
253: Kombi (Bus)
255: Caravelle

It is easier to call them "Typ 2" :D Like for the convertibles versions of Typ 1 and Golfs that we name with same Typ as the normal versions.
Do we call it "Doppelkabine" then?

Typ 2 is not really exact. All VW-Buses with the engines in the back are "Typ 2", divided into "T1" (1949-1967), "T2a" (1967-1972), "T2b" (1972-1979) and T3 (1979-1990). From all of them you could buy a "Doppelkabine"-version. Even the T4 and the new T5 are available as a "Doppelkabine".
