Despite the quoted date, the honeycomb grille and wire wheels belong to an Eight Series 1. -- Last edit: 2020-10-19 20:53:49 |

I had not noticed it was a van, maybe the grille and wheels stayed unchanged, I will try to find out. |

I can find no evidence that the van received “Series 2” modifications so the 1938 date should stand, I think. The Australian 8/40 was updated, with the painted grille and steel wheels. |

DTG 243 was Glamorgan, July-Dec 38. I've no useful info to add - most of my sources are the same as jfs has. Fairly sure I've seen a story somewhere (online??) that in late 30s the 5cwt van was only kept in production because GPO insisted, and they told Morris exactly what spec should be made. So Morris dutifully obeyed, and - if this is all true - it suggests Morris would have had to ask permission for updates, so maybe they didn't bother. I've got a book photo of PO Telephones livery van with same grille, perforated solid wheels and DXK 541 plate (= London, March-July 37). |

The above is the Morris van that was preserved after death by GPO edict, not the one that looked like the subject vehicle. However, whether due to edict, lassitude or just sheer cussedness, for which W R Morris was famous, it seem that the van went straight from Series 1 to Series Z. |
