Yes an Aveling-Barford SL 340 seems about right https://www.flickr.com/photos/biblioteca-camionera/49270126866 . Strange, according to my 1974 "The Observers Book of Commercial Vehilces", the SL 340 looks very different. And when I do a Google search Link to "www.google.com" other names pops up as well, looking similar to the one I have pictured in the book. Apart from SL 340, there are RD 017 and something I cannot make out http://www.album-mmt.it/details.php?image_id=17120 . Perhaps this is very early example. |

SL200 or SL270 from movie date I guess, googled data from various sources, Grace's Guide looks particularly comprehensive... 1953-1959 13½-ton SL200 1959-1964 15-ton SL270 1964-1971 15-ton SL300 1971-1987 17-ton SL340 / RD017 Table of models Grace's Guide https://www.gracesguide.co.uk/Aveling-Barford:_Dump_Trucks SL300 introduction CM Link to "archive.commercialmotor.com" https://www.trucksplanet.com/catalog/model.php?id=2225 |

According to the CM Archive's article the SL 300 was almost identical to the SL 270 except for an all-steel load-body construction. The only other comment necessary is that most SL cabs have a negative-raked (forward sloping) windscreen and cab front. It appears there was also a conventional backward sloping windscreen as in zodiac's link and in the documentary either as an option or perhaps for some export markets? -- Last edit: 2020-07-16 16:29:19 |
