I'm tempted to say it's one of the Ferrari 735 LM (also known as the 121 LM) built for 1955 Le Mans - wiki says "After the failed Le Mans, all four cars ended up in the States. Between 1955–1963 cars were raced by Jim Kimberly, Carroll Shelby, Phil Hill, Ray Cherryholmes, John Kilborn and Ernie McAfee with many victories in the SCCA and other race series in the US. McAfee, Shelby and Cherryholmes scored the most victories of all 735 LM drivers." But possibly not chassis 0546 LM despite similar blue/white livery in current state, which seems to have been McAfee's car. Maybe 0558 LM which seems linked to Shelby but is now back in its 1955 Le Mans livery as seen here. Or I'm following the wrong footprints .... |

...they was also the Ferrari 500 mondial by Scaglietti : Sothebys explain in this article that car was finished en "french blue" on chassis 0564MD/0424MD http://www.sportscardigest.com/rm-sothebys-new-york-city-2015-auction-preview/ https://www.tomhartleyjnr.com/car/stock/1955/ferrari/500-mondial/65266/ Link to "rmsothebys.com" interesting ![]() |

If that history is complete, 0424MD/0564MD spent its life in France and Maranello until at least the mid-1970s, so could not have crossed to US for Shelby or one of his chums. But it's possible that "our" car is a different 500 Mondial .... |

... so 1955 Ferrari 750 Monza Spyder Scaglietti [0502M] "Blue white stripes, without headrest" supplied new to Ernie McAfee. Bates ran it in 1957 season with #38 and apparently a headrest. |

Bates may have been involved with Ernie's 0502M too but I think this is another car. |
