I hesitated for the classification of this one, but since it was mentioned here: /vehicle_129862-Barkas-B1000.html, I used the same classication.

Barkas B1000 is correct IMO

Yes, but calling it bus feels a bit odd even if it is a kind of prison transporter.

Oh, I didn't know, that one more of these Stasi-prisoner's-transporters is still existing. It's surely an authentic car from the GDR-prison.

Four stars is a bit much isn't it?

I don't know much about the star-system over here (and I don't really care about it), but this Barkas is at least an original, authentic GDR-Stasi-prisoners-transporter, which has for the main character in this movie (and for the real political prisoners in the GDR) a very important rule. It was also used -in real- for tortures! They closed the prisoners in, after they told them "Now we gonna drive somewhere, where noone can find you any more" and drove them for a few hours around and then back to the prison.

A very recommended place for people, who are interested in the pre-1990 history of Germany, like that one, too:
http://www.mauermuseum.de/ and that place: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grenz%C3%BCbergang_Helmstedt-Marienborn

The last museum was impressive for me personally, because I hade made the experience of passing the GDR-border before November 1989. I'm very happy, that I can have memories of that situation.

Well, it's an interesting vehicle, I liked it right away (even if it's a torture device). One star too many is not life threatening, but in the film it's only seen on two brief occasions, first delivering Crista-Maria for interrogation (and second time it's leaving with her I think?) So three stars would be plenty. The only four star vehicle would be the Volvo.

Brilliant film by the way.

FR - chassis-cab.
1983+ bumpers
ca 1984+ black handles
maybe since 1987/88 black labels at the doors.

Edit! Sorry FR was chassis cab only, those prison vans were called GTW.
