Indeed, at last - a clear picture of the long-elusive Ranger! This is indeed the Ranger Coupe (I might be wring, but I think it was called the SS), and had the same 2,5 liter engine as fitted to the Chevs at the time. The Ranger was indeed Vauxhall-based, and was sold parallel to the Opel-based cars called Chevs at the time. The Ranger had the distinction (and got its own "brand" because) of being the first ZA-built car that met local content regulations. One cannot see it from this pic, but the brand logo was a leaping gazelle (on the grille). |
