At least four of them are visible in the chase between the Ford Ambulance and the Jaguar... probably four time the same car. I guess that they liked it and wanted to place it everywhere. Or maybe they had too few cars :D

What makes it a GV rather than a 45 or one of the other models?

They are the same, only the name is different.

In USA the Yugo 45, was sold as Yugo GV.

According to Wikipedia, "Yugo models have included the Yugo 45, 55, 65, 60, 65, Koral, Ciao, Tempo, Cabrio, Florida, Sana, Miami, GV, GV Plus, GVX, and GVL" :D

So if the scene is set in USA, shouldn't we name it as Yugo GV?

Yes, but in this case it is not in the US, I think. The license plates look quite large for that. (and the Yugo does not have any plate, strange)

I checked: it is in São Paulo, Brazil. So I guess that the Yugo was sold as GV like in USA?

That's not São Paulo.

I've been there and São Paulo, definitely doesn't look like that!

As said in the comments of the Bora/Jetta, all scenes are actually made in the USA.

Alias is a US TV show so the car is an American GV series.

Just to put a bit of order in that puzzle:

1)Yugo:name chosen for export market Zastavas;originally was spelled Jugo at home and wasn't a Brand, but a
Zastava car's model name;former Zastava Jugos were export as Zastava Yugo;as times goes by,Yugo becomes also a
Brand(late '80s)

2)Koral:also here things were troublesome,'cause on certain markets and at home indicates a body trim
forYugos(Yugo Koral);abroad,e.g.in Italy was the name of car model,at place of Yugo(Innocenti Koral 55)

3)Ciao:unknown infos

4)Tempo:was the name given to a"limited series"Yugo,luxury-trimmed,sold in 1991 only in UK

5)Cabrio:the convertible version of Yugo in USA,only 1990 sold;also known as Yugo Koral Cabrio

6)Florida:at home was the name of the car sold in UK as Yugo(Brand)Sana;also Yugo Miami

7)engine outputs identification digits:Yugo 45:903cc.,OHV;Yugo 55:1116 cc.,OHC;Yugo 60,65:1298 cc.,OHC;1301 cc.,OHC(this late cathalized for US-market and offered--on 1990 Yugo GV Plus only--with injection)

8)GV,GV Plus,GVC,GVL,GVS,GVX:are body trims identifications for 1985-1990 US-imported Yugos,ranging by basic GV,1.1 lt.(listed since early US-imports,but until 1988 M.Y. only)to top-level GVX,1.3 lt(only 1988-listed),both twin-barrel carb;GVS was a "limited series" luxury trim offered only on 1988 M.Y.,including factory-fitted stereo-radio with cassette-player);GVC was trim for the 1990 only-listed Cabrio(meanwhile be a 1,3 lt.injection,was fed with twin-barrel carb)that bore electric-powered ragtop and rear glass-heated defroster;in end,GVL identifies a GV trim a bit more luxury respect that basic(only 1988-listed)
