Found a picture but no info. Oct 80 DVLA date probably states when it was revived from a derelict. |

It has to be this one: /vehicle_17191-Daimler-Straight-Eight-Hearse-V26-1935.html And while clicking on the link provided by Animatronixx from 12 years ago, there's this: http://www.auto-nostalgie.de/1_Fahrzeugpass_Daimler_Bestatter/image010.jpg I can't read much german, but there is a mention of the EKM 500 plate in that megazine/newspaper article. |

Yes, it's the aluminium-bodied Dottridge Brothers Ltd. Daimler hearse again, and it seems like both movie cars and the one from dsl's and my links are exactly the same: EKM 500. It has been in Germany for decades and was owned by South German gallery owner Walter Dennenmoser, who bought it from a collector near Folkestone around 1981. According to my research, Herr Dennenmoser passed away many years ago and the last thing I heard (10+ years ago?) were the plans of an East German funeral director to have it restored for his fleet. The owner of this funeral home changed in 2020 and their website doesn't even mention the Daimler, so I have no idea where it went and if they ever followed their plans. The picture dsl shows us is from the German classic car magazine "Oldtimer Markt" 04/2017. I have a lot of issues (of said magazine! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Quite an exciting update 2021: So, if you guys (esp. @dsl @s13a) are interested: EKM 500 is absolutely fine and has been taken care of by Technische Restaurationen Werner Zinke GmbH of Zwönitz, Germany, by order of the funeral director I mentioned earlier. The rightfully proud owner contacted me recently and sent me a lot of pictures and information about the incredible amount of work that has been done to bring this beauty back on the road. The hearse is now back in its original state, as seen in Double Bunk, and the original wheelcovers and the original EKM 500 are back in place. Mr. "Owner" (discretion, you know ![]() EKM 500 is about to make one of its very rare public appearances at the 17th Classic-Gala Schwetzingen Internat. Concours d‘Elegance on 3rd * - 5th September 2021 near Heidelberg, Germany (and I will try to be there as well). ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Nice to know she is in safe hands ![]() On an unrelated note, I'm not sure why is that tree partially blocking the hearse. Very unprofessional.. *Now fixed. |

I believe this car EKM500 was owned by my old boss many years ago in Northampton UK,after he died the business was wound up and the car was moved to another location. If you are interested in the information I have please let me know. |

I started work for Castilian Motors, Northampton in the late 1970’s. This would have been the first time that I saw EKM500. It had been stored right at the back of the garage, I would guess for many years. In the early 1980’s Bob the owner died and we had to clear everything from the garage to another site in Northampton. It would have been shortly after this that a buyer was found for EKM500 and we had to deliver it to, I think, it was Knightsbridge in London. I managed to get it running quite easily after all those years. Had to fit an electric pump to get petrol to the carburetor as a temporary fix to be able to get it onto a trailer and off again in London. Has anybody any current photo's that could be emailed that would be nice. ![]() ![]() |

Thanks a lot @Martin1444 for all that info and these pictures! Much appreciated! ![]() So, Castilian Motors of Northampton were a car dealership or a repair shop, is that correct? If there is any further information and/ or pictures available, the current owner would love to receive them - especially as the history before EKM 500 entered Germany is pretty much a mystery. I'm his translator in this case, so to speak. Please feel free to share here on this page or via mail (for the more sensitive stuff or discretion, if desired). Thanks in advance! |
