2107cc would suggest about 12 (nominal) horsepower. Daimler built such a diverse range of cars that we may never be certain exactly which model it is. Early January 1921 registration would been a 1920 build date. Call it a 1921 Daimler 12hp for now. |

nzcarnerd, I believe your identification of Daimler 12hp is probably right, see this four seater tourer. The Poirot car looks to be a two-seater version of the same.... http://www.daimler.co.uk/daimlermodels/html/1911.htm The car appears to be a lot earlier than 1922 and 1911 would look to be more accurate. I find that a lot of the earliest dates of registration on the DVLA can be unreliable and it needs to be judged against the car's appearance. |

Sunbar, your note re the unreliability of DVLA records could be right. Today I received a reply to my enquiry to the UK Daimler club. I was told that according to the 1996 Veteran Car Club records, this car is a 1910 16hp model, car number 7789, engine number 8670. |

In those days registration numbers were often transfered from car to car and so DVLA records could be correct, but of little help! There was indeed a 12 in 1911- but only 12 were made, and the one 'Sunbar' illustrates is the only survivor (it's remarkable that any survive at all!). The sleeve valve engine was introduced for 1909. There was no 16hp in 1910- so this one is almost certainly a 15 of 80 x 130mm, 2.7 litres, this being a model made between 1910 and 1912 - to survive for three seasons in those days a Daimler model had to be considered a success. In 1911 Daimler made 12, 15, 23, 25, 2 x 38 and 57hp models. The two 38's were a four and a six cylinder type respectively. Daimler production was not quite as chaotic as first appears. All cylinders were cast in pairs. The 15 had a 23hp 'twin' model. This one used three pairs of 80 x 130mm cylinders, pistons, valve sleeves, etc, whilst the 15 used just two pairs! |
