In India it will definitely be a Maruti, because of prohibitive tariffs on imported cars. |

It is called a Maruti 800, I think, because of the engine size. I presume they made them from 1992 on after they finished in Japan. |

Simply Maruti which we know the best (and which is on the Wiki picture) is not a counterpart of Alto Mk.I, but of newer model. According to my sources Maruti existed since 1981 (that's why I've set this year here), so it is possible that at the beginning they made also the older model. Maruti 800. The very first 800 launched in 80s...used almost all japenese parts. Virtually it was assembled here. |
