Yes, both are 1998's. |

I believe '98 was the only year for the chrome grille. Why? What was wrong with it? |

Chrome is more expensive to produce also cleaning up the chemicals used during the process is expensive since environmental laws for disposal are very strict. |

It's important to note that the 1998 police-package Crown Victoria was the only year that the police model had the chrome grill/bumper trim. In 1999, the Police Interceptor still had a chrome strip in the trunk/tailights, but by 2000, there was no chrome left. However, up to this day, all civilian models and the Street Appearance Package version of the Police Interceptor still have chrome on them, the chrome grill, bumper trim, door handles, etc. The Street Appearance Package of the Crown Victoria is meant to be a more low-key car for the police to use, and is mostly used by detectives or other specialized divisions, rarely are they marked. -- Last edit: 2007-10-20 05:40:38 |

I like a littlie touch of chrome here and there, but when car companies just drench their vehicles in it, the vehicles become tacky looking in my opinion. I do think however that the Police Crown Vics look good with chrome grilles and black front ends. -- Last edit: 2010-10-19 23:12:40 |

So you like this one, which has the chrome grill but is missing the chrome strip in the front bumper? Is that what you mean? By the way, I have a question about your "True or False" game on the forum. |

Yes, just the grille, with no other chrome ... and I’ll check the forums for you ... |

It's a nice look indeed, but I like the 2001+ black honeycomb grills more. And thanks.... |
