What the hell is it doing in this film ? As far as I know, the Toppo was RHD only, so it wouldn't be sold in UAE, where cars are LHD. Maybe it's the same car seen in F&F 3 ? ;)

Both films are made by Universal. This Toppo could be a prop owned by Universal Studios...

Import of JDM cars is HUGE in the Arabic peninsula (do remember Japanese basically throw away their old cars, so if you can register one in your country, you can drive a perfectly fine car for pennies).

The official website for The Kingdom mentions that a Riyadh street set was built in Arizona, so I would agree that this and the other JDM cars came from F&F 3.

Bravada, you're right that used car dealers in the UAE import cars from Japan for resale in the Middle East. However, they convert them to left hand drive, and reputedly do it very badly, with unskilled labourers from the Indian subcontinent.

FWIK, you don't have to convert in UAE, but I might be wrong. If this is in Arizona, this is perhaps the same car as in other American movies, as I believe the chances that this is the only Toppo in North America are quite high (not to mention colour et al. match)

I don't see how one could convert a Toppo to LHD - there are no LHD Mitsu keicars AFAIK...

Like Exiv96 said, both The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (F&F 3 for short) and The Kingdom were made by Universal, so it's likely that all the RHD Japanese cars seen in The Kingdom were shipped over for F&F 3 and then retained by Universal. They all seem to appear in the same firefight scene -- I haven't seen the film but I have seen the trailer, and it looks like a set to me. :)

Most of the scenes in the movie were evidently filmed in the U.S, although a few of the establishing shots (such as the palace and the convoy of Suburbans being escorted by an Apache) were filmed in the UAE. Interestingly, the highway bombing was filmed in the United States, but the car chase afterwards was filmed in the Middle East.

With the same cars? I need to see that, there are bound to be a lot of continuity errors :D

I replaced the picture by a closer view. It is seen several times in the movie.

This is definitely not the only Toppo in N. America. There's a company in Vancouver that imports various Keicars (including the Toppo) to Canada. I've seen a few of them on the road. This is probably where Universal got this car from.

Not exactly.

While lots of them do indeed end up in Sharjah's used lots, majority of them gets re-exported to other countries or stripped for parts. The J-Spec cars that actually end up on GCC's streets are usually LHD European cars (older Mercs and BMWs especially), select few American cars (e.g 4th gen F-bodies & SN95 Mustangs) and some popular JDM enthusiast cars (Skylines anyone?). Even back then, the laws and logistics would make it illogical if not outright impossible to bother registering and running a second hand Toyota Voxy.

I'm aware I'm two decades late but nevermind that.
