There was South American Mini production in Chile (1964-74 - see below), Uruguay (1973-76 - Clubman and 1275GT, fibreglass body so no A-pillar seams) and Venezuela (1991-95 as MiniCord, several versions, some exported to Colombia). Chile did metal body Austin and Morris Mini Mil (UK style but with 998cc) 1964-66 then stopped until 1969 restart with fibreglass bodies (developed for BMC by by Peel in the Isle of Man) Mini 1000 with Mk1 features and included some Coopers until 1974. But they had no A-pillar seams or roof drip channels, and did have wind-up windows and a swage line along sills and arches (example) and this one has a definite A-pillar seam so is not a Chile fibreglass. It could be a boy racer tweaked 1964-66 Chile Mini Mil and looks as if external hinges and maybe Mk1 grille - which is the only explanation possible for South American build before 1974 to match what's seen - or it's a stray UK build which has somehow arrived here. |
