Are you sure it's an American bus? This is a German film.

But the desert-scenes weren't filmed in Germany. Otherwise, even here it's possible to find American cars, which never were officially imported.
US-school-buses, original NYPD-cars and so on, a few of them you can find here, alle privately imported

Forget the front: it's a bit like a Mercedes-Benz O 3500. Did they come in sawn-off versions like this?

Any details available or just a guess?

Resemblance is closer to the MAN E 3000, but it is far off anyway.

The bus is most likely of German origin. The 'lip' above the windscreens is a dead giveaway. It seems to be extensively modified, but the front wings look pre-war Mercedes-Benz L 3000.

could also based on an english bus

No, junkman's right: it's either German or Austrian. There are similar bodies elsewhere on the site on Gräf u. Stift, MAN, Mercedes-Benz and Steyr chassis.
