It's got the old quarterlight in the door window. So it's a 1954-1957 model (and the movie dates from 1957...). According to the site of the Dutch Borgward-club, this model was called Borgward Hansa Isabella, only the models from 1958+ were called Borgward Isabella...

The given information cannot be completely correct. I was not able to find information that confirms the 'Borgward Hansa Isabella' name.

What I did find is the following:
- Almost all references use 'Borgward Isabella' from the first to the last model built.
- The German Wikipedia entry says that the name was 'Borgward Hansa 1500' -- which was also the name of the model it replaced. 'Isabella' was used unofficially right from the start, as it had been the development code name. From 1957 on an 'Isabella' inscription was added inside the front rhombus. No information is given if the name 'Hansa 1500' was dropped at the same time. References are missing, but a few literature sources are named for the article.
- The page http://www.borgward.com/ states that 'Borgward Hansa 1500' was intended as a name. It is not clear if it was actually used.
- On no brochures I found, e.g. here: http://www.best-classics.de/borgward/werbung_d.html, the name 'Hansa 1500' appears, only 'Isabella', for older models, too.

What I make of it is the following:
The name
- is not Borgward Hansa Isabella
- could be Borgward Hansa 1500 for the time 1954-56 with the additional nickname 'Isabella'
- could also be Borgward Isabella right from the start

I think we need to find some hard evidence, e.g. official material from the vehicle's launch in 1954.

Thanks, Alexander. I was rather surprised to find 'Borgward Hansa Isabella'... Warum muß denn das alles so kompliziert sein?

Sometimes the information turns up just when you need it. I kept looking for Isabella's true name and found this:
which belongs to this car:

This proves that early models were actually called Borgward Hansa 1500, shortend to Borgward H 1500 which Borgward usually did.

Question is, shall use Hansa 1500 'Isabella' or H 1500 'Isabella'? The ID-plate would suggest the latter.

BTW, this car is up for sale: Link to "home.mobile.de"
Low milage, low price, but a complete rebuild is needed.

Great find, Alexander! I think that your choice for H 1500 'Isabella' is best, to prevent confusion with the different split-window Hansa 1500 model (without Bordward).

The Isabella (H1500) was bagdet "Isabella" on the bonnet already 1955
