MLD, July 1951 to Jan 1952. It’s a Daimler, of course, but which one? Probably a DE36, but the experts will have to come in for the hearse coachwork, which I think is somewhat less than elegant but then again I like smooth rather than wardrobe-like. However, and there’s always a but, what about this..... https://www.bonhams.com/auctions/16255/lot/622/?category=list So it started life in 1949, but was converted in 1951 into what we see here apparently by Dottrage Bros, from a DE27. Well, who needs all that power in a hearse? -- Last edit: 2019-09-17 22:14:45 |

MLD 496 is listed as 1948 DE27 with unknown coachwork in my files, but I have a suspicion. Will check tomorrow. Edit: OK, apparently one year younger. And it's Dottridge. With an "i", like in "Isenhower". Won't check tomorrow, then. -- Last edit: 2019-09-17 22:17:23 |

No need, possibly. |

I’m still a bit shell-shocked as my brother died this morning after a very short illness. As we were the survivors of triplets it’s even worse, but much as I loved and respected him I shan’t be hiring this hearse for his last journey. |

Thanks all. I have spent today on the necessary formalities. He had necrotising pancreatitis, don’t get it chaps, it’s a horrible disease leading, fortunately, to a quick passing. I am now going to draw a line under the matter, bouyed up by your kind comments. -- Last edit: 2019-09-18 17:54:36 |
