Where are these Opels, sold in South America as Chevrolets, produced? I'm sure, not in Germany. As I know, over here the Opel-factories only produces Opel and Vauxhalls. Last but not least: a Corsa Hatchback is unknown in Germany. |

It is still derivated from the European-conceived Corsa |

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opel_Corsa Take your pick. In this case, probably Rosario, Argentina. |

To be consistent with other GM model sources this should be Brazil for origin, ('made for' is not necessary as the model is the same throughout South America). GM do Brazil was the only design source for the notchback (sedan) based on the hatchback Corsa. Because also it is marketed as a Chevrolet, the separate manufacturing plants within South America are irrelevant. This follows same reasoning as in the case for Vauxhall. Its the branding which determines the origin not the manufacturing plant which can be anywhere within Europe. |

I'm not sure how it was with sedan, but for example the Corsa Wagon (also unknown in Europe), was designed by German students (somehow related with Opel). The project was interesting for GM and the production started, but in America - I remember article about it, it was somwhere in the mid-90's or a bit later. |

And in South Africa GM produces the Corsa Pickup. As I know, this model is only available as right-hand-drive. |

Corsa Classic (or Corsa Sedan) it was a project developed by the engineering of the General Motors of Brazil with base in the Corsa hatch that was already manufactured here. Initially it had motors 1,6 liter of 8 and 16 valves. Later it won the motor of 1,0 liter with 8 an 16 valves. With the arrival of the new generation of Corsa and of your version sedã the old changed the name for Corsa Classic and it is still sold. The version sedã of new Corsa was also developed in Brazil, as well as the old generation of the Corsa pickup and the new model renamed Montana. Small Sedãs don't interest the European consumers a lot, but in Brazil and South America they make success. Chevrolet has Corsa Sedã, Fiat has Siena, Ford has Fiesta Sedã and Volkswagen will create the version sedã in the next generation of Gol. -- Last edit: 2008-02-01 18:19:45 |
