Although the price of a gallon of petrol in 1930 seems to have been about that level, the cabinet upon which the sign is displayed is the oil dispenser. I don't recall using such a thing myself, my old bangers used so much oil that I used to buy it in gallon cans, usually Servol 30 grade, until I got my first Lancia, which required better treatment, so it was fed Duckhams 20/50. By the mid 70s engines seemed to have stopped burning their lubricant, and by the late 70s even my well used Granada seemed pretty oil tight. |
