I suspect that this may be one of the six wheeled Morris-Commercial trucks of the early 1930s. Link to "www.search.birminghamimages.org.uk" -- Last edit: 2019-06-04 19:53:59 |

Guy six-wheeler chassis. Possibly Guy BAX 5-ton six wheeler (originally as Subsidy type) price £1,075 in 1931. An advert with the exact body I think owned by Chivers about 1930. Source CM Archive 1931 'Goods Carrying Chassis on the British Market' and Guy Six-Wheeler Chassis "The main dimensions are: four-cylinder model, overall length, 24 ft. 7 ins.; wheelbase, 15 ft.; track front, 6 ft. 3 ins.; rear, 6 ft. 2 ins. Six-cylinder model, overall length, 25 ft. 2 ins.; wheelbase, 15 ft. 9½ ins.; track front, 6 ft. 3 ins.; rear, 6 ft. 2 ins." -- Last edit: 2019-06-07 19:35:53 |

Well spotted. Chivers did some strange things in the late 20s/early 30s, mainly involving second hand Tilling-Stevens petrol electric buses which they converted into vans for transporting their produce. They also did one double deck bus for staff transportation to their factory which shifted somewhat illegal numbers of folk, apparently. The transition to a six wheeled Guy would seem almost mundane! |

Just luck that I thought there could be a connection with a Guy six-wheel chassis as used on their buses. I was expecting it to remain unknown with it likely to be a 1930s make that was far more obscure than a Guy! I almost missed the picture in the advert. I was about to dismiss Guy as a solution when I recognised it. I was only looking for something like the chassis never thinking the body would match as well. Further details from the CM archive helped. It looks like they closed in the original open cab. Also too early for windscreen wipers it seems. The forward control version Guy FBAX 6x4 military truck also, for future reference... Link to "s3.amazonaws.com" Also here /vehicle.php?id=742465 -- Last edit: 2019-06-07 21:33:27 |
