Question: what were the advantages of buying an Italian-built Mini over a British one? |

Objectively, none. And this might be a UK Mini with an Innocenti grille - could be RHD for wiper position and has arch extensions which some 1980s UK specials had for 10" wheels (film date is too early for Oct 84 12" upgrade). But if it's a genuine Innocenti, it would be a much rarer catch in J than UK chums, so owner has extra bragging points in the pub. And in early-mid 70s Innocenti was the sole producer of fast Coopers (1300 had 71 bhp) - UK had stopped Cooper S in 1970 and their only boyracer was the Clubman-fronted 1275 GT with just 59 bhp. |
