'XB' registration so Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire, Scotland? Looks to be a suspect 'MP'/crown logo on the side for London Metropolitan Police. Likely to be any old van re-purposed as a black maria. The side panel possibly looks like poster 'frame'; Royal Mail van (did they exist as a PV?) or a newspaper delivery van. |

Looks to me like MXB 334 or 384, London series "allocated in blocks" Jan 52 - Feb 53. We have some recent sightings of restored survivor MXB 344 such as here. ✓ Taxed Tax due: 01 May 2020 Date of First Registration 01 01 1953 Year of Manufacture 1953 Cylinder Capacity (cc) 885cc Fuel Type PETROL Export Marker N Vehicle Status Licence Not Due Vehicle Colour BLUE |

London Series XA to XG were reallocated to certain Councils that had been either newly created or had run out of indices. 1964/5 cut off date I think, so that all new allocations were used with a year suffix letter, if no suffix it would be London CC. XA. Kirkcaldy XB. Coatbridge XC. Solihull XD. Luton XE. Luton XF. Torbay XG. Teesside. Hence the change. -- Last edit: 2019-05-25 17:05:09 |

I don’t ever recall seeing a PV used as a PO van, they seemed to go in for the bonneted variety. |

I guess I should have recognised the similar PV registration 'MXB 344' but anyway I have fallen foul of the re-allocated London to Coatbridge XB series previously must try harder to remember! Royal Mail Morris-Commercial light vans I associate with J-types so yes a larger PV would be very unusual. |

^ Yes, they seemed to jump straight from the J to the LC without using the PV, so there must have been a policy change about 30cwt vans when the LD was introduced. |
