This car is an Australian specification 3000GT (called a Capri GT/V6 in Australia). All V6 Capri's were GT's in Australia. You can see the GT badge above the rear wheel arch in one of the side shots, this is where the Australian spec cars had the badge located. Also the mirrors are the same mirrors used on Australian Ford Falcons of the era. I own this exact model. I spoke to Mike Minnett who played Frank in the movie. This was his car but was sold halfway through filming. The new owner allowed the cast & crew to borrow the car during weekends for filming. Also, fear not, a Toyota Corolla was used in place of the Capri in the scene where it's blown up. This car may possibly exist somewhere in New Zealand, I hope to find it & restore it one day. If you know of it's whereabouts please email me (jcbeckett at hotmail dot com). |
