Another car I didn't expect to see wrecked in this show for some reason. |

In the US, the resale value for a Dodge Caliber is dirt cheap. I'd be surprised if this is any different in any other international market, let alone in Germany. |

Considering it's a 2007 mid-class SUV from the USA, they are quite expensive here, starting at about 3000€ (ca. 3550$). Comparable Ford Mavericks cost about the half... I wondered about a destroyed Caliber already 1½ years ago (movie even filmed in May '18): /vehicle_1226539-Dodge-Caliber-PM-2007.html |

I wouldn't call that "expensive," considering the crappy quality control (excuse me) oft present in these cars. (Take it from someone who has had the displeasure of replacing an entire engine from one.) Ford Mavericks (called the Escape here in the US), on the other hand, were sold in greater numbers and while it was lackluster in reliability, it wasn't to the extent of the Caliber. Plus, the availability of parts and the relatively open-access engine bay made it easier for mechanics, despite the "Fix or Repair Daily" notion. Here in the states, this makes for the opposite scenario, where a 1st-gen Escape/Maverick SUV would sell for about 1.7x the amount of a Caliber's resale value. |

no need to excuse yourself.. someone i know had a 1st gen Compass ( mechanical relative to the Caliber ) and one day i was over there he was in his Jeep and told me : " come see this " .. i went , then the Compass started slowly moving , nothing excessive, you could beat it easily by walking .. then he told me : " Guess what , i'm actually flooring it " ( was an electronical problem , don't remember the specific one, i think it had to do with the CVT but not sure ) . |

Here is the other side to that argument. My mom had a 2003 Escape that literally rusted out in the first few years of ownership. Hunk of junk were those 1st gen Escapes. I heard the 2nd gens were not that much better. Literally she spent 2,000 on inspection repairs one year because the whole undercarriage and suspension components were rusted beyond repair. Mind you the car had only 45,000 miles on it at this time. The rear quarter panel you could put your fist through because of the rust. She was the second owner and never took it off-roading however the repair shop did mention when they removed all the suspension nothing but sand came out so the car was probably on the jersey shore for the first 3 years before she bought it. Either way the car should not have rusted that bad that fast. Couldn't imagine one of those up in baube's country. |
