Crown ? Or maybe a big Nissan, like a Cedric ?

Think it's either a Nissan Cedric Y32 (1991-1994) or a Y33 (1994-1998)

It`s a (Y31) Nissan Cedric "V20E TIWINCAM-Turbo-Brougham" with Optional "5-number Front and Rear Bumper".

"V20E TWINCAM-Turbo-Brougham" is Trim level.

Could it be built there (legally or not)? I've seen some more Cedrics on photos in North Korea-traveller's books.

My gut instinct says absolutely not. :) Perhaps a state organisation once bought a job lot of Cedrics. Very few private individuals in North Korea have cars, so most belong to official fleets of one sort or another (government ministries, state enterprises, the army, etc.).

At least there seems to be not any real private car in North Korea. One of the Western visitors, who wrote book later on about his visit, had carefully looked for car with orange coloured plates for private cars, but never ever seen one.

Here's a typical Pyongyang street scene with used Japanese cars, including a Cedric. :)

Nice pic. The dark car on the far left, could it be a North Korean Fiat?

P.S. You're right, the cars are Japanese versions.

About the car on the left, I think so too.

@wickey: it's worth to travel to any country, where Volvo's are popular? ;)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eiq643nQZj0&feature=related :D

The visible Mercedes are orignals, as it seems also the 190 [W201]. The North Korean copy of it was in so worse quality, that it wasn't driveable (as I've read in the book of the refugeed car-provider).
Kim Jong Il always has liked Mercedes Benz, he owns several, also one or more real 600 [M100].
And sometimes he buys again a little fleet ot shup up the mouths of his nomenklatura. As I just have read, in the last week 166 brand new Benzes were exported with destination DPRK...

P.S. The both Volvo 244, visible in the Youtube, can they be the "made for DDR" DLS-version? I got the idea due their colours. The DDR was one of the last and only friends of the DPRK. Otherwise: there was the availability of cars also a drama, worst in the COMECON except Cuba.
But the subway of Pyöngjang is operated with used trains from East-Berlin.

There's a story behind the Volvos in North Korea: they bought 1,000 but never paid for them.

P.S. The same photographer shows us the back of the DPRK embassy in Berlin, complete with a propaganda sign "informing people who are visiting the nearby parking lot, on the greatness of DPRK".

A composition of three of these legendary Volvo 244's in an article from 1990 of the only North Korean architecture magazine:

Product placement? :D Btw.: what's the car on the right page? Nissan Stanza Hatchback?

The book, where I've found it, is excellent. It's the brand new "Architecture Guide Pyongjiang"

"Socialism is Science"

But they can't do science themselves, so they import science from Japan...
