Plymouth-based Dodges from 1939 were designed the D-12 series and were produced for the export markets. They rode on a wheelbase of 114 inches and can be readily recognized by Plymouth's squarish headlights of 1939 .In Canada these cars were called Dodge Six or Special De Luxe according to the grade of finition , the bigger American series D-11 Luxury Liner of 117 inches wheelbase being called the Custom there .It is the first time I hear that D-12's were called Royals in Sweden.(Royal was a trade mark of the Chrysler Corporation and has been used on several US and Australian Chrysler and Dodge lines). The car appears to be the Touring Sedan with the built-in trunk and has lateral trafficators compulsary in several European countries at the time.Really an interesting document. |

The chassis of the Plymouth based 1939 series were called DP-8 when sold as Dodges and all the Dodge-trimming put on them was made locally. We also had them as Convertibles, and they were more common than the Plymouth original. Quite a few of them has survived. -- Last edit: 2005-11-12 18:23:27 |
