Vauxhall Astra Mark 1 or Opel Kadett (D). Since this was filmed in the Republic of Ireland, it's probably a Kadett -- GM uses the Opel name in the Republic. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vauxhall_Astra#Vauxhall_Astra_Mark_1 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opel_Kadett#Kadett_D |

I think the two-door Opel 'Estates' were sold as Vans |

I would agree with Opel Kadett. A 'base' version judging by the wheels, from 'L' version upwards I think they were slotted (four slots) rather than round holes (also the lack of the full length rubbing-strip on the side). I don't believe the Vauxhall was sold as a base three-door wagon/estate. However in the UK I think it was sold as an Opel, even if only for a brief period, alongside the base 2-door saloon/sedan as a cheaper model than the hatch. -- Last edit: 2007-08-03 13:02:41 |

1st poster is correct. Almost 80/90% of the GM Vauxhall/Opel products sold in Ireland are in fact Opels and not Vauxhall. So it's fairly safe to assume this is indeed an Opel Kadett (D) (79-84), or "Caravan" which is the official name for this body type, although this is not displayed on the car. Sunbar, I think the 3 door version was sold under the Bedford badge in the UK. -- Last edit: 2007-08-03 12:28:04 |

The three-door van was sold as a Bedford but not the wagon version with windows. edit: Confirmed that all 'base' models were Opels not Vauxhalls. The Vauxhall Chevette was sold until 1983 as the entry model for the Vauxhall range. -- Last edit: 2007-08-03 14:24:56 |
