XBY 212M is listed as a red Avenger 1600cc. I think this is a 68-69 Hillman Estate - anything later would have a model/trim badge.

So no model name ?

It looks very plain, so it could be a Minx. I was not aware of them being sold without a model name appended. Later the Minx morphed into the Hunter DL, with the 1500 or 1725 all iron engine. The Hunter GL got more trim and the 1725 with an alloy cylinder head, which, having had cars with both engines, didn’t make a lot of difference. The twin carbs on the Sceptre still didn’t set many rivers on fire either.

My first Estate was a 1725DL new in 1972, which had the twin pod dashboard and in which I did 93,000 miles in two years. I then bought it off the firm and sold it for a profit!

1] April 67 Hillman Estate introduced (alongside Singer Vogue estate)
[Image: 1967a.jpg] [Image: 1967b.jpg]

1496cc manual, 1725 only with auto option, no badge on door

2] Sept 68 renamed Hillman Minx Estate
[Image: 1969a.jpg] [Image: 1969b.jpg]

1496cc manual, 1725 manual or auto options, servo-assisted brakes, new badge on door, apparently a bit more chrome (seems to be pillar vents, not sure if anything else) and tailgate handle

3] Sept 70 rebranding
- Minx Estate became Hunter DL Estate with normal Hunter rectangular lights/grille
- Vogue Estate became Hunter GL Estate (there was a brief period April-Sept 70 when Singer name dropped and Vogues were sold in UK as Sunbeam, although unclear if there were any more than a handful of Sunbeam Vogue Estates here)
- the ordinary Hunter became Hunter Super, but there was never a Hunter Super Estate.

So we have a tailgate handle and chrome pillar vents on this one, so likely to be a 69 Minx Estate although I don't see window chrome or door badge in first thumb.

Yes - I think I'm going back to plain Hillman Estate, because I don't think the possibly blue-ish tailgate is the original on a green car. Noted also that with the twisted bumper, I don't think the tailgate would clear the over-rider on right. So we have a bodge-up special with a few quirks.

So why didn't you continue with the lucrative and valuable Rootes-jewels? Instead of that glorious way you have chosen Crewe-crap. *facepalm*

I also thought tailgate was blue and maybe it was a different car but roof looks green and same stickers, so replacement tailgate .

Because my next three cars were also Hunter Estates. Enough being enough, I got a new job and bought my own cars. Vauxhall Viva, Fiat 131, Austin Maxi, Renault 20, Granada Estate, Cortina Estate. Then, courtesy of my employer, two Escorts, Astra SXI Estate, Cavalier 1.7 Turbodiesel and two Golf Estates. Back to buying my own, Audi A4 Avant, Two Merc C-Class Estates. Not to mention madam’s MGB GT and Corsa.

That’s it to date. Notice a missing manufacturer?

You may have spotted that I haven’t mentioned the Bentley. That’s because I didn’t choose it, I inherited it.
