Paul goes to Lochgilphead![]() ![]() ... to track down where the Argyll (Turbo) GT ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() was made ![]() ... and finds its builder, Bob Henderson ![]() ![]() ... who apparently built the first turbocharged petrol car engine in the world, before then building the Argyll GT. Only 2 made - a blue prototype with turbo'd Rover V8 in 1976, then this silver 1983 production-ready demonstrator with turbo'd PRV Douvrin V6 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() "Rear lights were from Datsun Cherry coupe, dashboard from Volvo, steering wheel from Triumph Dolomite, door handles from Morris Marina." according to wiki. Seems A751 KSB last ran in 1993, but only needs a planned engine rebuild to run again. Info on Argyll GT always links it to the 1899-1930 car maker in Glasgow and Alexandria - http://www.argyllmotors.co.uk , https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argyll_(car) - but the only connection apart west Scotland is that the name was re-adopted because a grandfather of one of the 1970s investors worked in the original Argyll factory at Alexandria, which still survives as a magnificent frontage ![]() - has been renovated since that photo and now houses a designer outlet park. At a guess, this may be the (theoretically) fastest road car ever built in Scotland. But it's not the prettiest. |
