Mk3 in 1973, probably Austin as Morris ADO16 saloons stopped when Marina arrived in 1971 (although the Traveller continued because there was no Marina estate at that point). Which EU countries in 1973 would have allowed no seatbelts?? |

Italy was rather late. Compulsory wearing/fitting 1988/89. Netherlands 1975/76. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seat_belt_legislation |

Italy was a possible destination - it took Austin 1300 GTs from Nov 71 after the Italian built Innocenti I5 was dropped until 1974 - /vehicle_1024964-Austin-1300-GT-ADO16-1972.html |

In West Germany mandatory after the 1.1.1974, and retroactively to install for cars, registrated after the 1.1.1970. Typical for German car brands: before the 1.1.1974 seal belts were an extra option for extra charge. Detail about seat belts on the back seats: In the 80ies, when the "EU reimport" cars came up, it was discouraged to buy cars from Belgium, because over there seat belts in the back became mandatory much later than in West Germany. Depending on the model the extra costs to mount the belts later on, could be quite high. |
