Yes there are two and one of them, the Diamond Reo tractor and some other one are the only rigs that are seen leaving the Dixie Boy just before the explosion, so they might have survived. This excludes the Happy Toyz Co. Western Star which, we all know, is blown up. |

Is Thurston a real company? I know Happy Toyz Co isn't. |

After they drive away, they seem to split up when the Happy Toyz truck is the only one to catch up w/ the humans. The truck that allways "rearguards" the Happy toyz truck, the orange International Transtar i think blows up w/ Dixie Boy when it knocks down the second canopy over the pumps. |

I found out actually & very true that all both Thurston Rigs Survived the movie, Thurston leased 2 trucks for filming, the Diamond Reo didn't, the story is the night before they blew the Dixie they 3 Trucks Back to Universal Studio's for that the Diamond Reo, the Green Goblin Truck & one of the Thusrton Rigs, in the very last with the Thurston Rigs there only one truck #966 used in that, Truck #968 was already returned to Thurston, the thing was Universal just leased the 2 Thurston Trucks & Trailers from Thurston & just leased them for the movie, so both Trucks & Trailers were to return to work for Thurston after filming, all I know is in 1990 Thurston actually sold both & no one really knows who ended up with them after, all we know is all both Trucks & Trailers were both sold to another small truckinng company in '90, the 1970 Diamond Reo belonged to Death Valley,CA Truck Rentals the nights that we see the Green Goblin Truck & the other 2 Trucks drive away, when the Dixie Boy Truck Stop was blown Up & the Night the Green Goblin Truck Below was all different Nights, I remember some people were actually followed down the intersate by the green goblin truck the night it left the dixie boy truck stop & scared the crap out of them! before the movie both trucks actually came from Willington,NC, but since Thurston has more than one ware house, were trucks are dispatched from through out the USA & Canada, the trucks were sent to Charleston, WV in '86 to work for Thurston until '90, both trucks & Trailers were autioned off in Nashville,Tenn. "They were brought to an auction over there" and went to R & D Trucking in Falmouth,ME where the owner purchased them, they worked R & D Trucking until '97 when they were sold to a father/ son team that bought both trucks & Trailers were they still remain today the owner of the trucks & his son both live in Liconln,ME & they use them to haul out to Boston,MA -- Last edit: 2009-09-29 20:55:40 |

Yes, they were, Thurston Motor Lines was founded by D Jones "Doc" Thurston in Charlotte, North Carolina in 1933 during the Great Depression. By 1968, Doc Thurston founded the Thurston Aviation as a cheap airline service and dealership. Thurston Motor Lines ran into financial problems and merged with Brown Transportation in 1987. Doc Thurston died on the 24th November 1993 at the age of 64, his wife, Stella died on the 7th October 2015 and their son, Doc Thurston III died a month later on what would have been Stella's 91st birthday on the 16th November 2015 at the age of 51. -- Last edit: 2022-03-05 05:23:42 |
