Nor am I!

I got rather confused with those London Taxis while classifing "The Ladykillers".

There we have an Austin FX3 and a taxi which probably is a pre-war Beardmore -- both with the same numberplate and playing the same car in one scene switching roles several times!!

I am now pretty shure that the car we have here is a Beardmore Mk.V or Mk.VI.

I believe based on this photo this is probably the 1947 Wolseley Oxford Taxi Mk1 (sold by Beardmore before making their own taxi). The true Beardsmore has a more styled radiator.

Beardmore started building Taxis around 1925. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Beardmore_and_Company
So far I have only found older (http://www.daves-classic-transport.co.uk/latest/archive24/new24.htm) or younger (http://www.captainjakes.com/abcd2002/therest.shtml) vehicles than the Beardmore Mk.V or Mk.VI I mentioned above. Sadly I have just as little information about the Wolseley Oxford taxis.

Sunbar, have you got some more information on these?
Else we could ask here:

The only photograph I found was identified as Morris (or Wolesley) Oxford taxi here http://www.glasgowtaxisltd.co.uk/about_history.php . This ties-in with other written descriptions on other London taxi specific sites, Wikipedia and Austin-Rover.co.uk.

It was Wikipedia that mentioned Beardsmore dealers being used to sell most of the Oxford taxis, so not necessarily connected with Beardsmore as a manufacturer. - Poor descrition on my part as I was unaware Beardsmore built pre-war taxis - and Wikipedia not 100 % reliable.

However I do believe the contemporary photograph from the Glasgow source identifies the post-war Oxford cab built at Drews Lane Washford Heath, Birmingham.

I have requested information from the London Vintage Taxi Association and a company that lists a Wolseley Oxford taxi on its TV/Film hire vehicles website. So far with no reply. :(
