Standard Flying 10 - circa 1938.

Flying 10 - an oxymoron?? Flying 8 even more so?

Useful page of Standard photos - Link to "truck-uk.smugmug.com"

No, not as bad as you might think. Both models had a top speed in the sixties which was quite acceptable for thirties family fug box fours, only the light in weight Ford Ten Model C being comparable. The “flying” was, to my mind anyway, more of a pun on Standard and a reference to the streamlined shapes than anything else. Our Morris Ten SII certainly never saw a steady 60 iirc. My post war 103E Popular which was an Eight body with the Ten engine was distinctly difficult to coax above 60, I put a rod out of the side over driving it.

BTW, beware some of the Model attributions in those Standard pictures, they ain’t right.

Other than the 1936 Mk.I, the Flying Ten had a single rear screen its most likely a 1936-1940 Flying Twelve, they all had the same basic bodies. The 1937-1940 Flying Ten Mk.II was based on an enlarged Nine.
