Triumph 2.5PI Mk2 |

Agree with the Triumph 2500 Mk2 part, but is there anything visual setting the Petrol Injection (PI) model distinctively apart from the Twincarb (TC)? Asking 'cause I don't know! |

Actually, not really: it's definitely an Mk2 because of the black/plastic grille, but it could be either a 2000, 2500TC or PI. It seems they were actually assembled in New Zealand, where they might have been slightly different than UK models... |

the 2.5PIs may have a vinyl covered c pillar. I will have to delve into my old books later today. |

The badge in the middle of the grille tells the model/engine size - not visible here. |

If we could see the registration number I could do a search of the records. |

I'll go for a 2000 MK2 1970+ |

Style of nose used also on sporty Stag of 1970(maybe to create a"family-feeling") |

This is not a 2.5 PI, as the C-Pillar is not vinyl covered |

It's probably a 2000 MK2` |

It is a 2500 PI, even with no black vinyl on the last pillar, if you look better there is the PI inscription on the pillar and what is missing is only the vinyl! Might be stuck or never installed on a non British spec. car! Remember that Triumph always had different versions for 'hot' countries or more sunny climas and there were cars with no wooden dashboards or fairther decoration for those cases. So vinyl on the last pillar is a subtle detail to drive us to a correct verdict. -- Last edit: 2009-01-23 18:36:41 |

NZ production figures from http://www.triumphclub.co.nz/statistics.html TOTAL: 29,930 of the 2000/2500 range between October 1965 & March 1979 were assembled in NELSON, NZ. MODEL PRODUCTION START/ FINISH NUMBER BUILT Mk1 2000 October 1965 December 1969 7070 Mk2 2000 January 1970 December 1973 7980 Mk2 2000 TC July 1976 August 1978 1340 Mk2 2.5 PI April 1971 November 1975 2160 Mk2 2500 TC April 1973 April 1978 10780 Mk2 2500 S April 1978 March 1979 600 So statistically a greater chance of being a normal trim 2500 TC, but still looks closer to a UK 2.5Pi. Can't find any pictures of NZ cars, so unable to say anything further. -- Last edit: 2010-10-01 02:33:46 |

Registration looks to be IT****, which dates it to 1977 or 1978. |

... so 2500 TC seems likely. No tints and still has wheel trims instead of alloys, so unlikely to be 2500S. Not sure what trim NZ 2000TC had, but production was much lower. |
