I just discovered that this one is faking its age! It is actually a Series IIa (1968) with the plastic grille of a Series III. The side holes in the breakfast (the metal thing between the grille and the radiator) are larger on the first Series IIa with front lights mounted in the wings -- you can see they are not fully covered by the grille. The air vent on the side of the wing -- usually a dead give away for Series III -- is there, as the wings are of a Sereis III. This vehicle was most likely a wreck ... and a minute late it is a wreck again! Squashed by the monster truck. Originally this was a so called 'Bugeye' which was produced mainly for the US market due to legislation changes. Have a look here: http://www.fourfold.ca/billm/LandRover/BD1995/images/16Bugeye.jpg The left of the small pictures shows the same car, the right one is a different vehicle, but this one, too, is a Series IIa with Series III grille -- this time a unique late Series IIa with lights in the wings. -- Last edit: 2006-01-09 23:29:41 |

Look at the position of the indicators. They are not standard UK fits as they are too low and too far in. This is either an American spec Land Rover or locally built, which fits with the ex-bugeye theory. You will also note the other disguised 2A has the same lighting arrangement. The heater vent hole on the wing is too small for a Series 3 and look more like the intake for the optional Series 2A Kodiak heater. |

If they're in Africa, why are the vehicles left hand drive? |
