How do you guys tell a 1980 from a 1986. Or for that matter, an 81' Impala from an 85' Impala??? :???: |

Some people on this site like to guess a lot or go on hunches, which they really shouldn't. In reality, there's only one way to clearly tell the 80's M-Body cars apart from the outside: In 1986 a third brake light was added to the rear. This one doesn't seem to have one, so it would be a 1981-1985, not a 1986 as Snookie incorrectly stated (I assume he was merely guessing, as he has done in the past many times). -- Last edit: 2013-11-02 18:23:40 |

There's more to them then that. A few examples: steering wheels changed every two or three years depending, in '84 they came came out with the Dodge Diplomat SE which had a Fifth Ave front end clip, The Fifth Avenues had so many changes it would take too long to list. this Dip apears to have the Diplomat logo for the hood ordiment (instend of the pentastar) so this is either an '80 or '81 -- Last edit: 2010-05-21 21:22:19 (G-MANN) |

I was referring more to fleet M-bodies, not the civilian counterparts. But yes, you are correct about the steering wheel, although since they're never really seen, at least in pictures here on the site, it's not something we can really use. I know for a fact '83s have a pentastar and am about 98% sure '82s have them also. oh and sometimes you can see (or aleast I can) the outline of the steering wheel |
