Leyland P76 ! (it's a sedan, not a coupe, by the way).

I understand these were fairly rare and poorly constructed.

This is the 6 cylinder "Delux" model as it has single headlights. The V8 super was a much nicer car

Sold as a big car with a big boot that you could fit a full size oil drum into I'm told by my Ozzy friends.

They were designe to carry a 44 gallon drum lying sideways in the boot - that is correct. Early examples had poor build quality but later ones were better. (Even though they only built them for about 18 months before Leyland (UK) ceased Australian Leyland operations

Customised bootlid in 2nd thumb - I thought these were only used on US pimpmobiles.

Personally, i actually like both P76 models (i guess i have unconventional taste). This model was powered by a 2.6L inline 6. The quad headlight "super" was powered by the Buick derived Rover V8. Unlike the 3.5L rover model, the P76 was 4.4L. I guess there's likely to be more of these in australia, but even in new zealand there are still a few getting around. There was a quadlight V8 model (a kind of metallic ford blue colour) only a few streets away from me. Maybe im the only one that thinks this, but i reckon its a shame the "Force 7" coupe (announced in '74) never went into mass production, 'coz in my opinion it was a sexy looking full-size 2dr hatch.
