I was very surprised when I saw this car the first time in Italy... Arna meens as Alexander told us : Alfa Romeo Nissan Autoveicoli.

Into Eighties' in Italy was also a typical Municipal Police patrol car(e.g.,Borough of Milan will bought a small fleet of its)

1986 was last year when that car was marketed;that shown features all improvements intro.in Jan.1985(the Alfa-Nissan joint-venture,signed in Oct.1980,will ends in 1986 just when Fiat Auto Group merge Alfa Romeo into new holding named Fiat-Alfa-Lancia Industriale)

Italian build, Japanese styling. A great combination.

Don't believe was a 1.3 litre but a 1.2 litre(I know that 1.3 litre was always mated with sporty Arna Ti,otherwise could be a 1.3 option on 5 door body--Arna Ti was only 3 doors--available only on foreign markets--'cause at home the 5 doors were powered only with 1.2 lt. engines)

The opposite would maybe have been better? :D Though that there were more great Japanese designs than what is usually said...

The collaborative deal also gave the sister car: Nissan Cherry Europe.

Absolutely. The Datsun/Nissan Z-cars for a start.

The Z-Cars were styled by Goertz, so i wouldn't really say they were Japanese designs. The Toyota 2000GT is probably a better example.

Perhaps, but the remit drew so heavily on emulating the British E-Type shape and Elan structure design that it maybe isn't such a good example :)

Ther have been several Japanese cars with Italian design, e.g. Mazda 1500/1800 (Bertone), Daihatsu Compagno (Vignale), Isuzu Florian (Giugiaro).

ahhh. that's two cars not on the database: Mazda 1500 and Florian :D ...and just three (not great) grabs of Bellett too. I quite liked the RX2 too

There's Florian.

And Luce is same as 1500.

That's odd, I searched for Florian and nothing came up last night...

But no RX2 or RX3 on database - yet :)

Search those as RX-2 and RX-3 and you'll find them.

Isuzu Piazza/Impulse, by Giorgetto Giugiaro (I like that car :o)
Btw the car replaced the Isuzu 117 Coupe, also designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro.

:??: Goertz designed 1st Silvia but Z was designed by Nissan design section.

Thanks. However, neither 'RX2' or 'RX 2' return the vehicles. I'm used to the incorrect (but commonly used, as a google search will show) shorthand 'RX2' through habit. So if I am going to make this mistake, how many others new to the site will do so? Creating alisas might be laborious, so what could be done to the search mechanism to avoid this?

antp BE

2007-05-11 00:24

just search "RX" then :D
I made aliases for makes (VW/Volkswagen, Land Rover/Land-Rover, etc.) but haven't done it yet for popular model names, though that I should do it.

Annother case for the "What's left"-page, dsl has mentioned. Any idea, how many are still existing? About the numbers in Germany I have no idea, IIRC in one classic car magazine it was written, less than 10. Or only 5 or 6 cars.

Never seen any in France. Rare vehicle, but not a great loss...typical of the bad design of the 80's in my opinion

In Holland at least two, max. 5 survivors in total. The Arna was never officially sold in Holland, but a couple of Alfa-dealers have imported a few in '84/'85. Just like the great Brasilian Rio 2300, unfortunately I've never seen one 'in the flesh'... :( I do possess a part of its front grille though! :-)

shouldn't all AF Arna's have Japan as their model origin?

ElSaxo IT

2014-05-08 18:13

Why, sorry? It's not a plain Nissan Cherry with Alfa engine, they done some changes to Arna (if I'm not wrong because the engine compartment wasn't enough big to accomodate the boxer engine).

If I'm not wrong, it used the whole Alfasud chassis with a Nissan-body mounted on
