It was called Vita in Japan, not Corsa.

One of a number of cars sold in Japan over the last few decades that had to change their model name since the normal nameplate was used by a domestic brand.

In the Corsa/Vita's case, it was because of the Toyota Corsa (known in the US as the Corolla Tercel, then simply Tercel).

Other examples include Buick, when the fifth generation Century was sold in Japan initially as the Luxus (previously used as a trim level on US Buicks in the 70's), then later badged as a Buick Regal (Toyota, once again, was the reason for the name change, since Toyota offered the larger luxury Century), and Dodge, as the Journey was sold for a few years in Japan as the JC, which comes from the internal identification code of the Journey, JC49, and sold as such because of the Isuzu Journey.
